"Things I can't explain" is a song by The Gliding Faces from their second original studio album, Veritas. The song is about a fictional situation whereby the protagonist of the song is going out and working hard to make life easier for themselves and their partner, but their partner has grown suspicious of their activities and so acts out, destroying the relationship. Max says, "'Things I can't explain' talks about the dismay and chaos at the end of a relationship where one person is trying to fix things and the other is jeopardising it. The song is very emotionally fuelled and you can hear that I'm the vocals in the last verse."

Lyrics

Where I was last night
What I was doing
I know it causes you pain

I really can't say
And it's not worth pursuing
Some things I can't explain

Like how a sunrise makes me feel
Like how it's torture for us deal
With problems in our lives

Where I was last night
While you were crying
I know you're in so much pain

But I'm stuck with the truth
That I have to be lying
Some things I can't explain

Like how you wish on a shooting star
Like how we got the way we are
So many problems in our lives

Where were you last night
While I was fighting
For us to be free of this pain

Somewhere else
Doing wrongs I was righting
Some things I can't explain

Like how it feels to be misunderstood
Like what seemed awful really was good
For the problems in our lives

Shooting star
Shooting star
Shooting star
Shooting star
Shooting star
