"Slick" is a song by The Gliding Faces from the album Veritas. The song is about admiration and talent. "This, like "Last night" was written early on in the project," Dan says, "I did a bunch of demos and Max selected a few to go onto the album and they remain largely unchanged, actually." Max has this to say: "To me, 'Slick' is a conversation between two people about someone need for attention and love on social media and explores the idea of them thinking they're absolutely the slickest thing that's ever happened but you can see right through their juvenile ways."
Lyrics
Slick like the oil pumping through my heart Splash it around but make it art For, I don't quite know why I'm here, so I'll just keep out of your way Spinning, spiralling from front to back Using every tool on the rack I can see skill it takes to do this But I'll keep out of your way You've got talent and it shines And I watch as the world denies Any kind of recompense For what you give away You've got talent in my eyes If only the world was kind enough to Make you a living But you're always too forgiving Watching the score, the likes and clicks Does every search mean a hit If not then you'll be filled with rage If you're not ranked top of the page You've got fans in a hundred nations Isn't that enough validation, I Don't seem to get it through It's all about you You've got talent and it shines And I watch as the world denies Any kind of recompense For what you give away You've got talent in my eyes If only the world was kind enough to Make you a living But you're always too forgiving You've got talent and it shines And I watch as the world denies Any kind of recompense For what you give away You've got talent in my eyes If only the world was kind enough to Make you a living But you're always too forgiving
